YouTube channel audit
Find out what’s holding your channel back.
A YouTube channel audit is a focused review of your channel’s positioning, content, titles and thumbnails, and how viewers respond. We turn your channel data into a prioritised plan for the next videos and the path from viewer to customer.
What a YouTube channel audit includes
Positioning and content gaps
We compare what the channel promises with your audience and offer, and check which topics and formats are missing or don’t pull their weight.
Titles, thumbnails and openings
We review titles, thumbnails, descriptions and channel structure, and check whether the first seconds keep the promise that brought the viewer in.
Analytics and team capacity
We read YouTube Studio data in context, separate solid findings from guesses and weigh each opportunity against what your team can produce.
Action plan
We rank changes to existing videos, new topics and production steps, and say what the next review should measure.
Who a YouTube channel audit is for
A good fit if:
- The channel publishes regularly but has stopped growing.
- Views don’t turn into subscribers, enquiries or sales.
- You are about to invest more in video and want to know what to fix first.
Probably not the right fit if:
- The channel has only a few videos. A content strategy will help more.
- You need someone to run the channel. Channel management covers that.
What you get from a channel audit
- A written review with findings, gaps and clearly marked assumptions.
- A prioritised list of changes to titles and thumbnails, topics and production.
- A test and measurement plan for the next videos.
How the work runs, step by step
Brief
We agree the channel’s goals, audience and what “growth” means for your business.
Audit
We review the channel, your best and weakest videos and the YouTube Studio data.
Report
You get the findings and a ranked action plan, written so your team can act on it.
Walk-through
We go through the report with your team and agree what to test first.
What we need from you
- Viewer access to YouTube Studio analytics, or exported reports.
- The channel’s goals and your offer.
- Information about your team: who films, edits and publishes, and how often.
What we don’t promise. We don’t promise growth, views or monetization. The audit gives you a plan; the results depend on the next videos and the platform, and nobody can guarantee them. We promise clear findings and priorities.
What we check, report by report
A useful audit explains why the numbers look the way they do. These are the YouTube Studio reports we read and the question each one answers.
Traffic sources
Browse features, suggested videos, YouTube search, the Shorts feed and external links each tell a different story. A fall in search traffic points to topics and titles; a fall in browse and suggested traffic usually means viewers stopped clicking or watching, so YouTube shows the videos less.
Impressions and click-through rate
A low click-through rate on many impressions points to the title and thumbnail: they don’t give the right people a reason to click. Few impressions on a well-clicked video is a topic or audience question. We compare each video with the channel’s own typical figures, not with “industry averages”.
Audience retention
Retention curves show where people leave. A sharp drop in the first 30 seconds means the opening doesn’t confirm what the title promised; a slow slide in the middle is usually pacing or a long introduction; an exit just before the end screen means the next step is weak.
Returning viewers
We look at which videos bring people back and which attract only one-off views. For a business channel, a small group of returning viewers who match your buyers is often worth more than a viral video watched by the wrong audience.
The path to your business
Descriptions, pinned comments, end screens, links with UTM tags and the pages they lead to. If enquiries from YouTube can’t be seen in your analytics or CRM, we say so and show how to fix the tracking.
A YouTube audit service or a free checker?
Free audit tools are fine for a first look: they flag missing tags, short descriptions and irregular uploads. What they can’t do is read your data in the context of your offer, your viewers and your team. That takes a person who has seen many channels and knows which numbers matter for a business.
A YouTube channel review by a specialist answers different questions: which topics deserve more videos, why the channel stopped growing although videos come out regularly, and whether it is building an audience that can become customers.
What affects the cost and timing of an audit:
- how many videos and formats the channel has: long videos, Shorts, live streams;
- whether we work with YouTube Studio data or public information only;
- whether you want a comparison with competing channels;
- whether we also check the path from video to enquiry in your website analytics and CRM.

Regular videos, flat growth
A company has published weekly for a year, but views have been flat for months. The audit shows that titles describe the video’s format rather than the viewer’s question, and that the strongest topic gets one video a quarter. The plan starts there.
A typical scenario, not a client case.
YouTube channel audit: common questions
Do you need access to YouTube Studio?
A review of public data is possible, but a proper audit needs YouTube Studio data. The report states which data was available.
Does the audit guarantee growth?
No. It gives you a prioritised plan. Viewer response and monetization have to be tested in practice.
What do we get at the end?
A written report with findings and a ranked action plan, plus a call to walk through it with your team.
Who films the videos afterwards?
Your team or your contractor. We can help with topics, scripts, titles and thumbnails if you continue with us.
How is the cost of a YouTube channel audit calculated?
It depends on the number of videos, formats and the data available. We quote cost and timing in EUR once we understand these.
How is a full audit different from a quick channel review?
A quick review looks at the public side of the channel: titles, thumbnails, playlists and consistency. A full audit adds YouTube Studio data (traffic sources, retention, click-through) and links it to your business goal, so the recommendations are ranked by impact instead of simply listed.
How soon can we act on the findings?
Some changes can be made the same week: titles and thumbnails of videos that still get impressions, descriptions, playlists and end screens. Changes to topics and formats show their effect only through the next videos, so the plan says what to measure and when.
Can you audit a competitor’s channel?
Yes, but only from public data: titles, thumbnails, topics, publishing frequency and comments. It helps before you launch your own channel, to see which topics are taken and where there is room for your angle. We won’t have another channel’s retention or traffic figures: only its owner sees those.
